MudMan Sketches

Ok, this month I was bit complicated.
I'm involved in several projects, Promised, a comic serie which I'm working with Christopher Mc Donough and the idea is to make 3 issues to begin with, the whole thing is going to be a longer series of 9 issues, keep tuned!!! More info here: http://evolvecomics.com/

Right now I'm working on an 8 pager for Lord Magnusen (http://clockworkchap.tk/). A short comic story set in Uruguay in the 40's that we are going to present for a contest at the Uruguayan Association of Comic Creators (AUCH - Asociacion Uruguaya de Creadores de Historietas). It has to be ready for January 30.

And I have an 5 pages pitch done for another project, a comic story the idea is to make 3 issues, but I'm not going to talk too much about this project because is still in development, more about that later.

The last news is that I will be participating too at the Dark Horse contest to make a real awesome Conan cover, besides Conan is one of my favorite characters from my childhood and I'm really excited about the new take on the new Conan series by Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan.

The last thing I want to do, or better said what I'm planning to do is a webcomic, a weekly webcomic. I will be updating all this information in this blog, so keep tuned!!!!

In the meantime I did this two sketches based on the Mudman Character, published by Image works and created by Paul Grist, really I like the book and Mr. Grist's style, really nice and clean style. Highly enjoyable.

Comics Should be Good Contest

Two weeks ago there was a call for artists at the blog column Comics Should be Good CSBG) from the Comic Book Resources (CBR) blog.
I was told by some other friends and colleagues, that it was a good opportunity for receiving some exposure, so I decided to give it a go, they chose a theme and people send proposal via twitter.
Then they gave us this proposals, we have to choose one of them and make the drawing for this week.
They will vote after two weeks who is the best, and the 2 artist who gets more votes will stay and a third will be an alternate artist.
The first week the theme was convert a famous person or comic character into a villain or a superhero.
I chose from people proposal (there were more than 100 different proposals)

I chose Winnie The Pooh as a villain, I decided that Winnie would be a nice Joker.
Here is my entry.

The second week, the theme was to choose two characters who never teamed up before and draw them.
From the blog readers proposals I chose Lobo with Hellboy.
The thing is this time if was more difficult to me to finish the drawing, so I couldn't finish it on the weekend as I did the first week. So I I took the drawing with me, and I continued drawing on the subway trying to finish it on tuesday night, that this was the end of the deadline. Tuesday at midnight.
I took it to my work, the thing is that I showed the drawing to my colleagues graphic designers at the company where I work, and then I left. When I was going home, I realized that I forgot the comic at my work table, If I went back to the company to look for the drawing then I will miss the bus to New Jersey (I work in New York but I live in New Jersey) and I will be too late at home so I really was very sad. And I thought that was it, I won't be participating in the blog.

But something come from inside me and told me, don't quit. I took a piece of paper I had on my work bag, I took my pencils that I always carry with me, and I began to draw and draw, I even inked it on the subway and on the Bus going to New Jersey!!!!

I have to adapt my style of drawing, cause the bus was all shaky, there were movements every moment, so I decided to do a shaky style kind of the one we could see in Simon Bisley stuff (of course not as good as his :-)

But well, finally I ended and I sent the drawing on time, here it is:

Here you can see my entries:

Weekly Sketch: The Sixth Gun

We have a kind of unofficial challenge at the Ten Ton Studios forum called The 1 Star Theater Challenge
It is a challenge that it was created just to have some fun and to have more things to draw in between of the Official Sketch Challenge at Ten Ton. This is more informal and we keep making jokes, just a way to improve our skills and to have a more relaxed challenge than the official.
This week one of the members and founders of this challenge thread (Brav) proposed to make a Sketch of the Comic Book Series published by Oni Press "The Sixth Gun".
To be honest, I didn't read the series, but looking for reference for the comic I found that it really looks very interesting and the art is really awesome.
I just need to read it, so let me tell you that this comic is going directly to my pull list for the next week for sure.
:-)

Here is the info about the comic series if you are interested:

And if you want to know about the authors, here you can find info about the creator Cullen Bunn, here you have his website

And more info about the artist, Brian Hurtt. Here is the link to his website:

The thread at Ten Ton will be open the whole week, so you will see more art posts in the days closer to this next weekend.
